Character Name: Luna "Loony" Lovegood
Age: [As of May 1997.] 15
Birthday: December 13, 1983
Wand: 10 inches, thin, Phoenix feather core, ash
House in School: Ravenclaw
Bloodline: Pureblood
Political View –
School: Luna is rather content with being in Ravenclaw, as she agrees with all the hat said, as it was a hat. The article of clothing had said that neither Hufflepuff nor Slytherin were quite right. It had asked her about Gryffindor but Luna had replied, " But Gryffindor's have the Fat Lady as guardian and she is actually a Aquavirius Maggot in disguise. The Sorting Hat paused for a moment and muttered something about imagination and than exclaimed to the school, "Ravenclaw!" causing many of them to arch their eyebrows at the hat and begin to mutter. However, Luna just grinned and skipped off to the table, humming a rhyme under her breath.
Luna doesn't have many friends, as she is considered "loony" by most of the student population, even her friends agree. But, Luna enjoys the company of her friends, even if they don't understand Wrackspurt or any other of the many creatures unknown to most of the wizarding community.
Global[what side of the war to they support and why]: Considering she joined the DA, she is supporting The Order's efforts and only knows snatches about the Order as she heard it at the Department of Mysteries. The Death Eaters wouldn't let a loony friend of Harry Potter's join anyway.
Appearance
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 105
Build: Thin and rather short,
Eyes: Silver, misty and protuberant
Hair: Waist-length, straggly, dirt blond
Dress style [when not in school robes; mostly, what do they where during the summer]: Rather strange, even if Luna is in the Hogwarts uniform, she can be seen with some small, odd accessory(radish earrings, and so on). If she is not dressed in the usual black robes, she dresses in anyway she feels like, ignoring the comments of others and not caring what they say about her.
Discerning Marks: dreamy look, often seems to have turned up wherever she is completely by accident .
PB: [Play By: a celebrity that looks similar to what your character does.] Evanna Lynch
Sexuality: Straight
Psychology
Introvert/Extrovert: Introvert, although she says whatever comes to her mind to anyone is listening.
Boggart is? Explain: Cucumbers. Luna is deathly afraid of this said vegetable because they are actually blood sucking worms called Quintariors.
Patronus – can they even produce one? if yes, how did they learn and what is the meaning behind it: Yes, Luna can produce a Patronus, as she was in Dumbledore's Army and taught by Harry. (Explained in Pre-Hogwarts.)
Personality?
General Personality: Rather calm in demeanor and is normally in a dream-like state. She is rather happy with most of her life and holds a variety of strange beliefs she sticks to. She is very open-minded.
Strengths: Divination, as the teacher notices her dream-like stages and immediately thinks the girl is in a trance. Which, she might be. And she is rather smart as she is in Ravenclaw, but is not considered smart by her peers for her strange beliefs and trances.
Weaknesses:
Ancient Runes and History of Magic
General Outlook: Rather happy, loony and dreamy to most of the world. But inside, she is really quite brilliant. But most people don't take the time to talk to her because she is different.
Family
Parents: Xenophilius Lovegood and Gianya Triyanra
Siblings: None
Family dynamics [he way things are in the family; relationships, problems, etc.]: Gianya left Luna and her father when Luna was around 7. She told her husband she was tired of being so poor because of his crazy magazine. Both Oliver and Luna were heart-broken and both went on a mad search to find her. Unfortunately, they found her at a terrible time. She had joined with the Death Eaters and as she was an extremely smart person, was being used to experiment with spells, trying to make them strange for You-Know-Who. Something went extremely wrong. Kristianya was transformed into a small white rabbit and than, after five minutes of being a rabbit, the small animal died suddenly, her heart had shut down from being overactive.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time:
[100 words for pre-Hogwarts and an additional 100 words for each year attending Hogwarts. For example, a 4th year would require 500 words]
Pre-Hogwarts: As a child, Luna and her parents were actually quite happy. Xenophilius had inherited a medium-sized fortune from his parents, so they had a comfortable life. That was until Xenophilius decided to open a magazine called "The Quibbler". Needless to say, The Quibbler didn't bring in a lot of money to the family. Xenophilius had many "original" writers who wrote about things in the wizarding world that most people were too blind to see. Kristianya was not happy but stayed quiet for the first eight years while she was raising Luna. But after sometime, she became unhappy with her husband's career. She was quite a powerful woman in the wizarding community, so the Death Eaters began to notice Mrs. Lovegood. She started to secretly meet with a few of them and eventually she started shifting towards the darker side of the wizarding world. She left two days after Luna's seventh birthday. And as I mentioned earlier, she was killed right in front of Luna's eyes. Young Luna's eye widened and she snatched the rabbit, screaming at it to wake up. Xeno had to pull his daughter forcibly away from the scene before the Death Eaters arrived. The rabbit's body was buried in front of the Lovegood's home. Luna very nearly went insane there. Very nearly.
What plots would you like to pursue with this character? What goals does the character have? Luna has the goal of trying to make some friends and studying into the unknown sealing with the wizarding world.
First Year: Her first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was tough. Luna was constantly made fun of and picked on. Usually she was found crying in the Ravenclaw Common Room late at night, after everyone else had gone to bed. That is how she came across the Hogwarts Cleaning Staff better known as House Elves. She spent most of her time finding the secret passageways of Hogwarts told to her by the house elves. On one of these journeys Luna ran into a trio of red headed people. Fred, George, and Ginny Weasely. The Weasely twins found Luna extremely funny and thus, they formed a friendship with the strange first year.
But, something happened that year. That was when Ginny came across Tom Riddle's diary. Luna noticed small differences in her friend's behavior and she tried to point it out to one of Ginny's older brothers but they acted as if Luna wasn't even there.
Second Year: What's the first pet that comes to your mind that most Hogwarts students would own? Cat or owl? Well, not for this peculiar female. On her third day of term, a huge owl came pelting into the hall, dripping with water from the outside storm. It soared down and dropped a very large wrapped cage right on Luna's plate of eggs. Any other student would have yelped or cursed but not Luna. She merely blinked, took one last bite of eggs and turned over the small card fastened to the cage. It read "Just a little surprise, my dear. Love Xenophilius Lovegood." All of the surrounding students were crowded around the quiet but strange second year. Luna slowly unwrapped the package and discarded the brown paper. There were several gasps from the crowd. The cage was empty. Luna, however, shouted in joy. "It's a Makeygian!" Many eyebrows shot up. "It's a sort of invisible penguin." Luna said in a tone that suggested everyone should know what a Makeygian was. The Ravenclaw just laughed for a short period and went back to talking or consuming their food. A sixth year box stuck his hand in the cage and yelped while pulling his hand back. "It pecked me!" And sure enough, there was a small cut on his wrist that was oozing blood.
Third Year: After the wide birth Luna had been given after the pet incident, she had grown accustomed to being alone ninety percent of the time (aside from Ginny.) Two of the things buzzing around was Hogsmead and the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Third Year: After an extended examination from Argus Filch, Luna was free to wander around the small village as she pleased. She passed Fred, George, and Ginny in the Joke Shop, debating on whether to send their mother on of the shop’s odd toys. Many students ignored the young Ravenclaw as she wandered aimlessly for about an hour or so. When the time had come for the students to return to the castle, young Ms. Lovegood was no where to be found. It was dark by the time Ginny Weasely found Luna in a dirty, old pub known as the Hog’s Head. She had been conversing with the somewhat drunken Hagrid for most of the day.
During the Tri-Wizard Tournament, Luna was unlike many of the other Hogwarts Students. She supported young Master Potter in his competition the whole way and believed the he did not enter his own name.
Fourth Year: Peculiar to say the least. To start off, Luna met Harry Potter, the strange awkward brother of Ginny, Ronald, Hermione Granger, who seemed to have a dislike to her, and the nervous Gryffindor boy known as Neville Longbottom as Ginny accidentally found Luna in a compartment near the end of the Hogwarts Express. The new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher was the exact opposite of what the students needed when You-Know-Who was rising again. Luna did not like Umbridge one bit. That horrible woman tried to stamp out her father’s magazine. This appeared to be one of the few things Hermione and Luna agreed on, After some encouragement from Ginny, Luna made the decision of the Rebellion led by Harry Potter known as Dumbledore’s Army.
Xenophilius was thrilled about the secret fellowship and was constantly pleading to her daughter the permission to publish something about the resistance in the Quibbler. But, Luna urged him to stay quiet. The young girl began learning spells, charms, and incantations under the instruction of Harry Potter and she slowly made a friendship with him, Ron, and Hermione. Fred and George had escaped the cold rasp of Umbridge, Luna was sad to see them go but loved their style of doing it.
To cap it all off, near the end of the year Dumbledore and the gamekeeper, Hagrid also took flight from the castle. The DA was banned promptly after the headmaster’s escape, as it was the reason he had left. Umbridge finally blew her top near exams and took Harry, Ron, and Hermione to her office. Luna, Ginny, and Neville tried to stop the Slytherins and Umbridge but was taken with the trio. Hermione managed to convince Umbridge to go to the forest with herself and Harry to show her “The Weapon” and it did not end well. For Umbridge that is.
For some reason, Harry insisted on going to The Department of Mysteries to rescue Stuffy Boardman from Lord Voldemort. After the short ride on the theasterals, they had reached the Ministry.
The six had traveled to the Hall of Prophecies when they were ambushed by Death Eaters. During the mad chase scene, Luna was thrown into a desk and fell to the floor, unconscious.
When the girl regained consciousness, she was in the hospital, Headmaster Dumbledore standing over her. They were a mended gash across her forehead but aside from that, she was uninjured. The Headmaster informed her on what had happened to the others and told her to rest.
Luna received a small amount of visitors but was content with the number. Harry, when he came back to Hogwarts, seemed very sad about the death of Stuffy Boardman, who he was apparently very close to.
Fifth Year: Harry, Ron, and Hermione had all taken places at the Order of the Phoenix while Luna, Ginny, Neville and other DA members that were still at Hogwarts helped within the castle. They were quiet about their fighting for a good part of the year but after awhile it got out to the teachers and they started to get suspicious of the band. At least the teachers that supported He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did. The other teachers did small things to help the students with their quest. Each student was caught at least once and was punished severely but that did not stop them one bit, it made them more determined to fight inside the castle.
( I wasn’t sure about fifth, so I kind of followed DH regarding Luna.)
Role-Play: The dark corridor of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was illuminated by the flickering candle held aloft by the House Elf’s thin, bony hand. His bright blue eyes seemed to be glistening in the darkness like sapphires. The House Elf’s other hand was grasping the edge of the ink black cotton of the Hogwarts uniform which was being worn by Luna Lovegood, a Ravenclaw first year. Her light, wispy steps were barely audible on the thread-bare carpet. “Just a little bit further, Miss.” The House Elf’s squeaked, his voice just an octave low from being painful on the ears. Every time one of the elves spoke, Luna jumped slightly. It was one of her few times of hearing their voices and her ears had not grown accustomed to their pitch.
Just as her eyes had not yet adjusted from the absence of light. “Thank you, Enroth.” Luna whispered softly into his bat-like ears. This was not the first time she had gone on a midnight journey with Enroth. No, but on this particular evening, Luna was unsure of where this house elf was taking her. She had forgotten how many turns they had taken and was lost in thought.
How could Dumbledore had been able to find that many Death Horses to drive all of the coaches> There must have been at least fifty of them or more.
She thought, remember how their silky coats had felt on her skin, imagining how exhilarating it would be to actually ride on one.
She was so busy thinking that she did not notice the small hue of light down that hall that was slowly getting bigger and brighter as they progressed on their journey. Luna did not notice until the light was right in her face, blinking her momentarily, causing her to take a step back and blink.
Visible from the beam of light emitting from the lip of a wand, were three people all with flaming red hair. Two of them were boys, older than she was and they were twins. It was quite obvious as they both looked like one person. The other visitor was a girl who looked around Luna’s age, her green eyes bright and curious.
“So is this who you meant Enroth, you’re right she is rather different.” One of the boys said.
“Fred don’t be rude, she’s not different, just…” The young girl struggled to find a word that described Luna. “Original. Nice to meet you, I’m Ginny Weasley and these two are my elder brothers Fred and George.”
Which is Fred and which is George?
Luna wondered, but she decided against asking. “Hello, I’m Luna Lovegood and I am glad you seem fond of me even though I’ve never met you.” She said.
“Hello, Miss Lovegood. We’ve heard some very amusing stories concerning you and we became curious, Enroth agreed to have us meet you here, but you’re a tad late.” Fred or maybe George said bowing to Luna. The other twin nodded and did the same. Luna blushed.
Just then, there was a deafening crash and all four students jumped. Fred (or George) raised his want to enlarge the small circle of light.
The raspy breathing of Argus Filch reached their ears. They all scrambled into the nearest secret passageway, that was concealed by a large tapestry. For a minute, Luna looked around the small hallway and stared. She had not known any of the Hogwarts passageways. Each pressed their ear to the thin door and struggled to hear what was beyond the wood.
